June 26 Lauren and Matthew’s wedding day started hot and got hotter. I love outdoor ceremonies, the white dress against the greenery is dramatic, the natural sunlight and the freedom to move around makes outdoor ceremonies one of my favorite types to photograph. There is one exception 95+ days with humidity 95+. Those who know me know I love the heat, hot weather rarely bothers me but this was one of those days that no amount of water was going to keep the couple and their guests cool (not to mention their photographer). The bride decided after arriving at Foxchase Manor to hold the ceremony indoors. I applauded this decision and let her know that I would like to do some of the formal photographs outside after the ceremony. It would be later in the day and I can work quickly and still get great images.
Lauren had chosen hot pink and orange as her color scheme. I was a little frightened as I saw the two linen colors emerging from the caters bag but once they were on the table the effect was stunning. Fashionistas that I have know
had always advised against orange and pink going together but these shades were so vibrant with POP they looked great together. Kate and I couldn’t stop taking photographs of the tables hoping the colors and intensity would reflect well on “film”. Let me know if you think the photographs were successful in conveying the drama and beauty of her colors.

When talking to brides I often say that your wedding day is going to be fun why should your photography be any different? A lot of time and attention goes into the wedding and reception from the big things such as “The Dress” to the little details of escort cards and seating arrangements. I still remember as my wedding approached my excitement increased as well as my commitment to having fun. That day I vowed to have fun and enjoy every minute. I planned as best I could and whatever happened would happen. I was also fortunate to have an amazing wedding coordinator that I had confidence would handle anything that came up. The day is a blur but I remember some things vividly… My nervousness of walking down the aisle – I don’t think I ever held on to my dads arm that tight before; it is doubtful I would have made it down the aisle without him. This surprised me as I have presented for work in front of hundreds of people and never imagined the nervousness down to outright fear I felt that moment
as we prepared to go down the aisle. I remember my groom talking through the ceremony; cracking jokes to try and get me to relax (it worked). Getting one chocolate covered strawberry from the chocolate fountain (my then husband saw I was so busy dancing and talking to our guests that he brought me one – my favorite romantic gesture the whole day). I was so excited to have the chocolate fountain as I had seen them at so many weddings and rarely got a taste I figured this is the one time I could eat chocolate covered strawberries to my hearts desire; it didn’t happen I had one, the one my husband brought me. There were much bigger romantic moments like the ring exchange, first kiss, and the first time we were announced as husband and wife however it was the little things he did that stick out. I promised myself that I would cherish and remember every big moment that day as I heard from countless brides the day goes by so fast and that they hardly remember a thing. I was convinced since I knew this in advance I would be prepared and be able to will my memory into action. No such luck, I’m ashamed to admit like many brides before me I recall very little of the “main events” first dance, toasts etc… Overall though I remember having fun the entire day, from getting my hair done with “the ladies” to dancing and leaving in my dads’ convertible veil flying in the wind. I’ve pasted below some of my wedding photographs. If you’ve read earlier blog entries about my love for color then you will better understand my wedding choices. Enjoy.

September and October are two of the busiest wedding months in the year. The fall weather can be perfect for outdoor ceremonies and flower choices are plentiful. On October 17th I had the opportunity to photograph at a great Baltimore ceremony/ reception site, Savage Mill. The outdoor deck is perfect for ceremonies or cocktails. This bride wanted to have a wedding that was more “green” then traditional weddings. A big part of weddings are the flowers. The bride was telling me about how her flowers were all grown locally; I was initially concerned that she would not have the beautiful flowers I had grown accustomed to seeing at weddings. I had no need to be concerned; in this case the flowers were exceptional, very unusual and colorful. In speaking with Ellen of Local Color Flowers I learned that as all her flowers are grown locally her brides benifit from the lower costs and less fossil fuels are used in comparision with imported flowers. Live plants provided decoration to the reception site and were welcomed gifts for the guests to take home. The overall effect of the flowers/ decorations was impressive and ecologically friendly.
